Shariah Committee



Assoc. Dr. Ab. Mumin Ab. Ghani graduated from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in 1979, with Bachelor of Economics (Honours). He later obtained Diploma in Education (UKM) in1979, Diploma in Public Administration (INTAN) in 1983 and MBA (UKM) in 1987. He finished his PhD (Islamic Studies) in 1998 at University of Malaya (UM).

Previously he served as an Administrative Diplomat Officers (PTD). During that period, he was attached to several units in Department of Prime Minister, among others are Economic Planning Unit and Islamic Economic Resources Development Committee.

At Academy of Islamic Studies UM, he was previously the Deputy Dean, Faculty of Shariah; Head Department of Shariah and Management; and Deputy Director of the Academy. He, at present, contributes as an academic panel for several institutions of higher education and also Management Academy of YPEIM. Besides, he involve in establishing the Ummah Development Index, IKIM. As an Associate Professor, he was written various books and articles related to Islamic transactions (Fiqh al-Muamalat), Islamic economics, Islamic management, Islamic banking and finance, Zakat, Dinar and Dakwah.



Dr. Uzaimah Ibrahim graduated from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) with LL.B (Honours) in 1993 and LL.B (Shariah) (Honours) in 1994. She subsequently pursued her study and received Master in Comparative Law (MCL) from IIUM in 1996. She later obtained PhD from University of Wales, UK, in 2001.

She initially joined IIUM as an assistant lecturer in 1993 and subsequently as a lecturer and senior lecturer in 1997 and 2001 respectively. She has conducted a number of researches related to Islamic commercial law, Islamic jurisprudence, Islamic banking law, derivatives and securitisation. She has also conducted presentations in seminars and workshops and contributed a chapter to the Halsbury’s Laws of Malaysia published by Malaysian Law Journal.

She is currently an Assistant Professor at Ahmad Ibrahim Kuliyyah of Laws, IIUM. Besides that, she also serves as Legal Consultant (Shariah Matters) of the IIUM Legal Clinic, which provides legal advice to the community of IIUM as well as the public at large.



Dr. Nurul Aini Muhamed graduated from University Malaya (UM) in 2001 with Bachelor of Syariah (Management). She pursued her study and received Master of Business Administration from University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in 2003. She later obtained PhD (Business and Management) with the research area on Islamic investment principles and practices in Malaysia, from University of South Australia (2009).

Dr Nurul Aini started her career in Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) and serves the university until now. She is a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Economics and Muamalat and a Research Fellow at the Institute of Halal Research and Management (IHRAM), USIM. Previously, she was the Deputy Dean (Academic and Research), a Head Program of Bachelor Degree of Muamalat Administration and USIM Alumni Liaison Officer.
She has taught several subjects including Fiqh Muamalat I, Fiqh Muamalat II and Management of Islamic Banking and Takaful Institutions. Her research areas include the Islamic Transaction Law, Islamic Banking and Finance, Halal Compliance and Corporate Governance.



Dr. Muhammad Aunurrochi Bin Mas’ad Saleh currently is a Senior Lecturer in Faculty of Shariah & Laws, University Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM). He graduated from University Madinah, Saudi Arabia with B.A Shariah. He later obtained Master of Arts (M.A) and PhD in Shariah at University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).

Currently, he is Committee of Post-graduate Studies and new programme of Faculty of Shariah & Laws, Researcher Fellow for Islamic Finance and Wealth Management Institute (IFWMI), and committee of Qualifying Test for Master and PhD Program, and reviewer for Journal and proceeding articles as well as an examiner of researchs, masters and Ph.D thesis.

He is actively involved in research and writing related to Shariah and Islamic Finance. Among his researches are 1) Tinjauan Syarak Ke Atas Pelaksanaan Bay’ Bithaman Ajil : Satu Kajian Perbandingan antara Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad (BIMB) dan Bank Muamalat Indonesia (BMI), 2) Konsep dan Kriteria Keuntungan dalam Transaksi Jual Beli : Satu Tinjauan dari Perspektif Fiqh al-Muamalat and 3) Fatwas on Islamic Capital Markets : A Comparative Study Between Malaysia and Gulf Co-Operation Council (GCC),  Countries. 4) Methods of implementation of Diyat System in Cases of Road Accidents in Malaysia: An Initial Survey.



Dr. Asmak Ab Rahman is currently a Senior Lecturer at Department of Shariah and Economics, Academy of Islamic Studies, University of Malaya. Her areas of specialization are Takaful, Islamic Economics, Islamic Legal Maxim and Waqf. She has been teaching at the University of Malaya since 2005. Dr. Asmak  holds a Bachelor in Shariah (Hons.) from University of Malaya.  She holds a Master in Shariah from UM in 2000 and she has successfully completed her Ph.D at the same university in 2005. 

Dr. Asmak has published a few books and chapters in book in the area of Takaful, Islamic Economics, Islamic banking and waqf. She has also published some of her works in the internationally recognized refereed journals such as Journal of Islamic Marketing, Arab Law Quarterly and International Journal of Islamic and Middle Eastern Finance and Management. She has presented many papers related to takaful, waqf, and Islamic economics at national and International level. Presently she is an Exco for Malaysian Association of Shariah Advisors in Islamic Finance (ASAS).  Currently she serves as Shariah Committee for Amislamic Bank and SME Bank.
